21st Century Librarian Award

he 21st-Century Librarian Award was started as part of the efforts of the faculty of the School of Information Studies to provide Master of Library Science (MLS) students with as many links to contemporary practice as possible. The purpose of the MLS program at the School of Information Studies, as articulated in our Mission Statement, is to educate students to be leaders in the evolution of the library and information profession. We strive to engage students in reflection, study, and discussion of the past, present, and particularly the future of librarianship. Understanding the forward-looking directions in librarianship today, as exemplified in outstanding contemporary practice, helps students envision how their careers might evolve and what they might do today to prepare for both their first job and for leadership roles as their careers unfold.
